Role Overview
You will be an Urban Drainage Advisor with sewer hydraulic modelling experience, working with a national team to design and implement new regulatory approaches for the wastewater sector. Your work will support strategic change in how we regulate and collaborate with sewerage companies to deliver storm and emergency overflow improvement programmes.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and apply sewer hydraulic and modelling tools to inform guidance and ensure programme delivery.
* Lead the creation of audit processes for water‑quality investigations under the Storm Overflows Assessment Framework and Environmental Act.
* Co‑develop Urban Pollution Management (UPM) training courses, respond to technical queries and coach staff on sewerage and water‑quality investigations.
* Participate in incident response – you may opt for an incident role and receive additional payment, with full training provided.
* Work proactively with internal Environment Agency teams and external organisations to embed new approaches across a dispersed workforce.
Qualifications & Experience
* A relevant degree – civil engineering, geography or environmental science – or equivalent professional experience.
* Proven experience in sewer modelling and/or river‑quality impact modelling for UPM studies, including model audit or quality‑assurance work.
* Knowledge of environmental planning and the regulation of Water and Sewerage Companies.
* Excellent organisational and coaching skills; experience embedding new approaches into business at an organisational level.
* A strong communication record, capable of working independently while maintaining effective coordination with internal and external customers.
* Flexible office base location; occasional travel or overnight stays may be required.
