Job Summary
Situated within our £32m state-of-the-art Global Technology Centre (GTC) in Filton, Bristol, and due to continued growth, we are seeking Research Engineers with a background in advanced composite manufacturing process development. This role involves working on developing innovative composite manufacturing processes for current and future aircraft wing applications, suitable for candidates at various career stages, from early career to experienced professionals.
You will be an integral part of the GTC technology team, applying your engineering knowledge to research tasks across TRL1-6. Your proactive approach and strong communication skills will enable you to work effectively with internal stakeholders and adapt to new technologies rapidly.
The Programme
SUStainable WING Solutions (SusWingS) is a 50% ATI funded, Airbus-led programme focusing on reducing emissions from aircraft manufacturing and operation. The project aims to develop lighter, more efficient, and environmentally friendly aircraft technologies, building upon the Wing of Tomorrow programme and preparing the UK aerospace industry for future challenges.
Partnered with Airbus, GKN Aerospace, Cranfield University, and the University of Sheffield, the project explores topics such as single-sided fasteners, advanced carbon fibre composites, numerical analysis models, and environmental impact assessments of manufacturing processes.
Job Responsibilities
* Understand the strategic goals of your assigned projects.
* Manage work package or small work stream budgets.
* Contribute to planning, proposals, and business cases.
* Maintain accurate planning documentation and ensure timely delivery.
* Support or lead development tests and trials.
* Record data and results meticulously.
* Prepare detailed technical documentation.
* Explore exploitation routes and support stakeholder management.
* Adhere to EH&S policies and promote a safety culture.
Job Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have experience in composites, preferably with an engineering degree or equivalent qualification in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related fields. Skills include knowledge of composite manufacturing techniques, equipment operation, metrology, and aerospace or relevant industry experience.
