The Directorate is seeking high quality consultant level candidates to be part of the Critical Care team at North Manchester General Hospital and Manchester Royal Infirmary site, as well as support the departmental ambition to become a centre of research excellence. Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join the team as a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine. This exciting opportunity is the chance to work in one of the largest and most advanced Trusts in the country in a critical care unit with excellent standards and patient outcomes.

Applicants may apply for Critical Care with a background of ICM training with specialist registration with the GMC or expected within 6 months of commencement of post. Rostering is flexible and subspecialist interests are encouraged with the opportunity to deliver care within the Trust.

Most importantly, it also contains critical information you'll need to be aware of before you submit an application form. 1 post will consist of Anaesthesia PA's as a Fixed Friday 29 weeks per year, 2 sessions Anaesthetic days (1.72PA) and 9.5 flexible in year sessions. The other post will be fully Critical Care.

Person Specification


Attainments

Essential

* Fellowship or membership of the Royal College of Anaesthetists/ Physicians/Emergency Medicine or equivalent
* Fully registered medical practitioner with licence to practice on GMC Specialist Register or expectation for entry within 6 months of appointment to post


Desirable

* Additional post graduate degree (MSc, PhD or equivalent)


Training


Essential

* Eligible to be included on the GMC Specialist Register with a CCT in Intensive Care Medicine or apply for equivalent Certificate of Eligibility for CESR in Intensive Care Medicine within 6 months of interview


Desirable

* FRCM/EDIC/FRCA/MRCP Extended complementary skills (e.g. Echo, USS accreditation)


Professional Interests and Experience


Essential

* Experience of general critical care casemix
* Experience of tertiary management of complex critical care patients


Desirable

* Evidence of the use of audit in changing practice
* Knowledge of up to date literature


Management and Administration


Essential

* Ability to manage & lead a team.
* Some experience of departmental management


Desirable

* Evidence of postgraduate management training


Teaching and Research


Essential

* Interest in undergraduate & postgraduate teaching.
* Experience in teaching postgraduates clinical & procedural skills


Desirable

* Postgraduate training in medical education
* Evidence of delivery of research


Domicile


Essential

* Able to travel to and from hospital sites including out of hours

* Multidisciplinary team experience.
* Enquiring, critical approach to problems.
* Commitment to continuing medical education
* Good communication skills, ability to work well as part of a team
