Overview
The University of Sheffield is seeking a NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Cardiology as part of the UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) / Modernising Medical Careers (MMC) integrated academic training pathway. The post provides 50 % clinical and 50 % academic time over a rotational system, with dedicated research periods and an Academic Training National Training Number (NTN(A)) in Cardiology.
Objectives of the Integrated Academic Training Programme
* Obtain a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Cardiology.
* Complete a post‑doctoral research programme.
* Identify an academic and clinical focus to support an externally funded fellowship or Clinician Scientist Award application.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Develop a national/international research profile aligned with Cardiology strengths such as atherothrombosis, pulmonary hypertension, or imaging.
* Secure peer‑reviewed competitive funding and apply for intermediate/advanced fellowships.
* Publish findings in high‑ranking scientific and specialty journals.
* Teach undergraduate (MBChB) and postgraduate programmes, including student assessment and mentoring.
* Deliver 50 % clinical work at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals (mainly at Northern General Hospital) in flexible blocks covering core specialty modules.
* Participate in the resident on‑call rota at 50 % of the normal SpR commitment, including during research blocks.
* Engage in clinical governance and audit programmes.
* Contribute fully to the Sheffield Academic as a teacher, researcher, and leader.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* MBBS/MBChB or equivalent.
* MRCP or equivalent and eligible to hold an NTN.
* MD, PhD, or equivalent showing evidence of academic achievement.
* Full GMC registration and current licence to practise.
* Completed core medical training sufficient for entry into specialty training grades.
* UK‑based experience in Cardiology as a recognised training position.
* Strong record of research productivity in peer‑reviewed publications.
* Commitment to further research and knowledge of external grant funding bodies.
* Excellent organisational, time‑management, and communication skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
* Intercalated degree.
* Experience teaching undergraduate students and use of innovative teaching methods.
* Previous experience in digital health, big data, or translational biomarkers research.
Salary and Benefits
* Salary: £52,656 to £73,992 per annum.
* Full-time position.
* Fixed term up to 4 years or until achievement of CCT (with a 6‑month extension option), whichever comes first.
