Deputy Training Programme Director – T&O (Surgery)
We are seeking an outstanding individual to serve as the Deputy Training Programme Director, working under a secondment arrangement with NHS England. The role supports the Head of School in delivering a range of functions aligned with the NHS England mandate. It focuses on learner supervision, assessment, faculty engagement, educational outcomes, workforce transformation, curriculum delivery and well‑being strategies.
Main duties of the job
* Engaging People / Key Working Relationships – develop an effective communication and collaboration network with stakeholders at local, regional and national levels, including the Head of School, staff across the area, clinical faculty, other heads of schools, programmes, regulatory bodies and higher education institutions.
* Delivering Results / Functional Responsibilities – ensure high standards of education and training as defined by national bodies; commit to national vision and policies for quality management; meet budget objectives and Code of Practice guidelines; provide accurate guidance on applications, OOP/IDT/LTFT and acting up issues.
* Leadership – provide effective clinical leadership and expert advice on specialty‑specific matters for the Yorkshire and the Humber Deanery.
* Quality and Safety – implement the NHSE Quality Framework, manage postgraduate programmes, recruitment, assessments, rotations, remediation, career support and meet Code of Practice requirements.
* Educational and Workforce Development – advise and support educational programmes, develop curriculum competencies, and contribute to strategic workforce development and commissioning.
* Finance – ensure compliance with procurement requirements.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Primary medical qualification or listed on the Specialist Register.
* Membership/Fellowship of a College, Faculty, Professional Association and/or Regulatory Body.
Skills
* Leadership and problem‑solving.
* Strong interpersonal, communication, written and presentation skills.
* Organisation and time‑management.
Experience & Knowledge
* Experience working with learners or doctors in training within an educational context.
* Experience of clinical and educational leadership.
* Demonstrable track record of delivery in service and education.
