Offer description

Overview

The post holder will be responsible for lung cancer screening assessments as well as working in a nurse led clinical hub supported by a national protocol and training. The overall purpose of the Hull & East Riding Lung Cancer Screening Programme (LCSP) is to enable the early detection of lung cancer in order to save lives. Hull was one of the 10 pilot sites, chosen to roll out the first wave of the LCSP programme, linked to its high prevalence of smoking, deprivation and its current ranking of the highest mortality rate from lung cancer in the country. The Hull & East Riding Programme continues to be a success, and the service is continuing to expand into the East Riding. The Lung Cancer Screening Programme will help improve cancer survival rates by inviting people aged 55-74 who have ever smoked as being at increased risk of lung cancer for a lung cancer screening assessment. People will be offered a Low Radiation Dose Computed Tomography (LDCT) scan (chest scan) if appropriate, through a mobile CT unit.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the NHSE Lung Cancer Screening Programme. The post holder will be responsible for assessing patients as well as working in a clinical hub and on the mobile CT units. The Lung Cancer Screening programme will help improve cancer survival rates by inviting people aged 55-74 who have been identified as being at increased risk of lung cancer for a lung health check. The post holder will be expected to provide specialist knowledge and care to the patient and their carers. They will support colleagues in the effective management of patients in their specialist area who require a high level of judgement, discretion and decision making within an inpatient or outpatient setting.

The successful candidate will provide clinical supervision to other staff, and students. Provide informal/formal teaching/education to staff/patients/relevant others and the wider multidisciplinary team in primary and secondary care. And may undertake research, lead clinical audits in Lung Cancer Screening.

The successful candidate will also be given training to work in our new Urgent Lung Cancer Assessment (ULCA) service which involves nurse triage of symptomatic patients. This is to support and improve the current two week wait and meet the faster diagnostic standard for lung cancer.

This role includes multi-site working between the mobile Lung Health Check unit in Hull/East Riding and the hospital site clinical hub at Castle Hill Hospital.
