Station Manager – Business Fire Safety and Fire Investigator
Permanent position. Salary: £50,135 (Development) – £55,301 (Competent SMB) plus 20% Flexible Duty Allowance. Hours – 42 hours per week, Flexi Duty Officer. Location – Service Headquarters, Calcot, Reading.
We are seeking an experienced Station Manager (B) – Business Fire Safety and Fire Investigator to lead, shape and enhance our Business Fire Safety function. This role plays a vital part in improving public and business safety by overseeing the delivery of targeted fire safety education, regulatory compliance and formal enforcement activity. You will lead specialist staff, manage complex audits and casework, and provide Tier 2 fire investigations and expert witness support to legal proceedings. Working closely with internal teams, partner agencies and local authorities, you will ensure consistent, high‑quality regulation, support professional development across the team, and drive continuous improvement in how RBFRS protects its communities.

* Competent Crew Manager with CPD
* Award in Education and Training
* Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement
* IOSH qualification
Key role requirements (knowledge, skills and experience)
* Leading the Business Fire Safety team and driving service improvement.
* Designing and delivering targeted fire safety education and enforcement.
* Conducting Tier 2 fire investigations and acting as an expert witness.
* Overseeing operational competence and Level 2 Incident Command provision.
* Leading development pathways for staff and contributing to strategic initiatives.
* Working collaboratively with partners, local authorities and internal stakeholders.
Eligibility
Applications are restricted to Competent Crew Managers in receipt of CPD or above who have successfully completed a Level 1 Incident Command qualification and have maintained their knowledge and skills. If appointed to a Station Manager role, you will be required to undertake the Level 2 Incident Command qualification before undertaking Incident command activities required in the role.
