Role Responsibility

Ceremonies Officers are one of the first points of contact for couples booking a civil ceremony in Kent. They lead the frontline services in Register Offices and guide couples through the stages of booking and planning the legal aspects of their ceremony. The role offers the opportunity to meet a wide range of people and help them through one of the biggest days of their lives. Delivering outstanding customer service and demonstrating a high level of technical knowledge are key parts of the role.

The main responsibilities involve delivering Legal Preliminary appointments, liaising with customers over all administrative aspects of their ceremonies, and delivering Register Office and Civil Partnership ceremonies, being trained as both a Registrar and Celebrant.

There is a high level of technical knowledge required but there will be full training and support for all new colleagues. If you have excellent people skills, can adapt your communication style to different customers, have good attention to detail and good judgement then we would love to hear from you. This is a really rewarding role which offers the opportunity to meet a wide range of people and help guide couples through their journey in booking their ceremony and all the legal aspects of their big day.

37 hours per week are worked across a range of hours including weekends, and you may be required to undertake periods of lone working, as well as occasional working at other locations across the district.

As a Kent County Council employee you will enjoy the following benefits:

- 29 days annual leave rising to 30 days after 5 years, plus bank holidays.

- Competitive salary.

- Local Government Pension Scheme.

- Opportunities for training and professional development.

- A wide range of health and wellbeing support.

- Good work/life balance.

- Access to Kent Rewards scheme, with discounts and cashback from hundreds of companies.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

Applicants to previous Ceremonies Officer vacancies in the past 6 months who have been unsuccessful need not apply.

Interview dates: 25th and 26th June 2026
