An opportunity has arisen for an Audio Typist within the OphthalmologyTeam at York Hospital.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual who can work effectively using their own initiative, as well as being part of a team. They must be a proficient Audio Typist with the ability to transcribe complex digital dictation.

The successful candidate will posses GCSE English Language, Grade C or above, or equivalent. They must also possess excellent typing skills or RSA II level qualification as well as previous clerical/administrative experience, preferably in a healthcare or customer based setting.

Main duties of the job

Duties will mainly include the audio typing of outpatient/admin letters and reports, and dealing with any subsequent instruction as indicated by the dictation such as making outpatient appointments.

  • Audio typing of outpatient clinic, discharge and general administrative letters.
  • Filing, photocopying and other administrative tasks as necessary.
  • Provide typing and administrative support to the Directorate as required.
  • Deal with routine internal telephone queries.
  • Respond in a professional and sensitive manner when dealing with
    confidential issues.

    Essential criteria

  • GCSE English Language, Grade C or above (or equivalent)
  • Word processing skills – RSA II (or equivalent)
  • Typing skills – RSA II (or equivalent)
  • Knowledge

    Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of office applications and procedures
  • Experience

    Essential criteria

  • Previous clerical/administrative experience
  • Experience of working in a customer focused environment
  • Experience of using a variety of IT applications, including Microsoft Office
  • Skills

    Essential criteria

  • Effective communication skills, verbal and written
  • Proficient audio typist with the ability to accurately transcribe complex audio tapes
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to assimilate new practices and knowledge
  • Ability to be flexible and to adapt to new demands
  • Ability to get on well with members of a team
  • Ability to work under own initiative and stay calm under pressure
