What are we looking for?
You don’t need any specific skills or experience to be a school governor. You must be over 18, and you don’t need to be a parent or have prior education sector experience. Our governors come from a range of backgrounds, sharing a common interest in the best possible education for the children. Professional experience in areas such as HR, finance, law, or project management is useful, and soft skills like leadership, communication, and problem solving are highly valued. Please note, we cannot consider an application from a parent of a child currently on roll at this school.
What will you be doing?
We are looking for individuals who care about making a positive impact in our school communities. Echelford is an inclusive and nurturing primary school; being one of the larger schools in Spelthorne, we offer opportunities for children to form friendships and transition to secondary school confidently.
The Local Governing Body (LGB) supports the school leadership at a strategic level and is not involved in day-to-day running. The focus is on three core functions:
* Strategic leadership: ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction aligns with Trust values in serving the local community
* Accountability and assurance: supporting the Executive Principal and Directors in understanding the impact of actions to strengthen pupil outcomes
* Compliance: overseeing financial performance of the Trust schools
We are looking particularly for someone with:
* Commitment to this voluntary role (you will be required to)
* Attend 3 in-person LGB meetings per year (each typically 1.5–2 hours)
* Carry out a minimum of 3 monitoring visits during school hours per year
* Undertake governor training (online), typically 8–10 hours per year
* Fulfil a 4-year governor term
