Contract Systems Engineer / Control Systems Engineer
Hybrid
Aerospace / Defence
We’re working on a complex, long-term engineering programme where system behaviour, safety, and design assurance genuinely matter. This is an opportunity to contribute to the development of high-integrity control systems in a regulated environment, alongside experienced engineers who care about doing things properly.
The role sits within systems and control design - close to architecture, requirements, and safety - with exposure to real technical decision-making rather than document churn. It would suit someone who enjoys understanding how things work end-to-end, asking the right questions, and improving designs as they mature.
You could be earlier in your career and ready to step into more responsibility, or already established and looking for a programme with depth and longevity. Either way, the work is meaningful, collaborative, and technically stretching.
What you’ll be involved in (at a high level):
* Contributing to system and control design for safety-critical applications
* Supporting design maturity through structured technical reviews
* Working across disciplines including systems, software, hardware, and safety
* Applying recognised engineering standards and best practice
* Assessing change, risk, and system behaviour across the lifecycle
What typically works well here:
* Strong background within Aerospace
* Proven Systems / Control Systems Experience
* Experience working to DO Standards
* Experience working on Engines or propulsion systems preferred
Location & working pattern
* Derbyshire
* Hybrid working, typically 1–2 days on site per week
This role may suit engineers from backgrounds such as aerospace, defence, propulsion, controls, or similar high-integrity domains - but curiosity, rigour, and good engineering judgement matter more than a perfect CV.
If you’re looking for a role where engineering quality is taken seriously and your contribution has real impact, it’s worth a conversation.
