Post and Specialty:
Consultant Psychiatrist in Children and Adolescent Inpatient, Brookside Unit, and the Young Person’s Home Treatment Team.
This is a replacement full-time post of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) with 7.5 Direct Clinical Contact activities (DCC) and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs).
The purpose of this job description is to outline the level of responsibility and accountability of this post. It ensures all work undertaken by staff is clearly identified and carried out under clear lines of accountability.

General Duties
1. Organize and prioritize your own and others' workload in the day-to-day allocation of work.
2. Have organizational knowledge relating to Trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them.
3. Ensure effective risk management at clinical and team levels.
Clinical Skills
1. Assess and develop care plans to meet the complex needs of patients with various conditions, including chronic, acute, and palliative care within your competencies, recognizing limitations and seeking advice when necessary. Continuously evaluate and act on outcomes.
2. Initiate referrals to other health professional specialist services and agencies.
3. Provide patients and relatives with information and education to ensure meaningful choices that promote dignity, independence, and quality of life.
4. Support practice with research, evidence-based practice, literature, and peer review.
Training & Supervision
1. Act as clinical supervisor to doctors on the unit, providing education, facilitating development, and promoting high standards of care.
2. Ensure own continued professional development and support a culture of lifelong learning.
3. Undertake regular appraisal and develop a personal development plan.
4. Support new staff and their integration within the team.
5. Support team training, including professional development and implementation of new policies and guidelines.
Education
1. Provide in-service training and teaching to Medical Students, Trainee Doctors, Resident Doctors, and other multidisciplinary team members.
2. Engage in the weekly Academic Teaching Programme.
Administration
1. Undertake administrative duties related to patient care and record clinical activity accurately and promptly.
2. Possess good IT skills and use the Trust’s electronic case record system.
Management
1. Work with the team manager and senior colleagues to ensure delivery of high-quality, safe patient care through clinical governance.
2. Act as line manager to all medics in the team.
Leadership
1. Develop services, participate in business planning, and provide clinical leadership within the unit and wider directorate.
2. Demonstrate leadership skills to foster effective team working and maintain relationships within the Trust and partners.
3. Promote integrated health working and a positive team culture.
4. Participate in Trust-wide mental health strategies and support service development and coproduction.
Communication
1. Communicate effectively with colleagues, peers, senior managers, and clinical leads.
2. Convey complex patient-related information to facilitate positive outcomes and collaborative working.
