Export Control Officer
Stevenage, Bristol or Bolton | Hybrid | Circa £45,000 + Bonus & Benefits
A leading defence organisation is seeking an Export Control Officer to play a critical role in ensuring compliance across international trade activities. This position sits at the heart of regulatory compliance, supporting the safe and responsible movement of sensitive technology while enabling global business operations.
You’ll work across multiple teams and programmes, providing guidance on export regulations and helping to ensure that all activities align with UK, US, and international requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure compliance with UK export control regulations and relevant international frameworks
• Provide guidance on export classifications, licensing, and regulatory requirements
• Support the assessment of export risks across goods, software, and technology transfers
• Maintain accurate and auditable compliance records
• Advise stakeholders across the business on export control obligations
• Assist in embedding robust compliance processes across projects and functions
What We’re Looking For:
• Strong knowledge of UK export control regulations and frameworks (e.g. OGELs, control lists)
• Working understanding of US export regulations such as ITAR and EAR
• Experience in a compliance, regulatory, or governance-focused role
• High attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex technical and legal information
• Strong communication skills, able to clearly explain regulatory requirements
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a structured, methodical way
• Proactive and risk-aware approach to problem solving
• Degree-level education is beneficial but not essential
• Experience with Microsoft Office; exposure to compliance or document systems is advantageous
