SEMH Teaching Assistant – Thornton Do you have a passion for supporting children with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs? A welcoming mainstream primary school in Thornton is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team from January. The school offers a safe, structured environment for pupils aged 4–11 who require additional support with emotional regulation, behaviour, and mental wellbeing. Staff work collaboratively to build trust, resilience, and confidence, creating a foundation where learning can flourish. What the Role Involves Start Date: 5th January Contract: Long-term with potential for permanent placement Pay: £89–£95 per day (dependent on experience) You’ll work closely with teachers and support staff to deliver tailored interventions, both one-to-one and in small groups. Activities may include: Emotional literacy sessions Sensory regulation strategies Creative tasks to develop social skills and self-esteem You’ll also play a key role in maintaining a calm, consistent environment during lessons, breaks, and transitions. What We’re Looking For Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant experience Experience supporting children with SEMH needs (in any setting) A calm, nurturing, and resilient approach Strong communication and de-escalation skills Understanding of behaviour support strategies and trauma-informed practice This position is ideal for experienced TAs or Psychology graduates looking to make a meaningful impact in education.
