Trainee Maintenance Engineer Sector: Manufacturing/Engineering Location: Norfolk Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent Hours: Full-time Salary: Dependent on experience / training route ISQ Recruitment is recruiting for a Trainee Maintenance Engineer to join a manufacturing business in Norfolk. This is a practical opportunity for someone who wants to build a long-term career in mechanical maintenance engineering. You will receive day-to-day guidance from experienced engineering support, learning how to maintain production machinery, carry out basic repairs, support planned maintenance and get involved in general factory maintenance tasks. The role may suit someone who has recently completed an engineering or mechanical college course, is looking for an apprenticeship route, or has practical experience from a garage, workshop, farm, factory or similar environment. Previous maintenance engineering experience is not essential. The business is looking for someone reliable, practical and willing to learn, with a genuine interest in mechanical engineering and hands-on work. Please note: Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK, as visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Own transport is required due to the site location and working hours. The Role You will support maintenance activity across the factory, helping with machinery checks, basic mechanical repairs, line changeovers, planned maintenance, production support and general site tasks. The aim is to develop you over time into a capable Maintenance Engineer who understands the machinery, production process, safety standards and day-to-day maintenance requirements of a manufacturing environment. What You’ll Be Doing Supporting day-to-day maintenance activity across the factory Assisting with planned maintenance on production machinery and site equipment Helping identify faults, wear, damage or safety concerns Supporting basic mechanical repairs, adjustments and machine set-ups Assisting with production line checks and changeovers Helping respond to breakdowns under supervision Learning how to use tools, equipment and maintenance systems safely Supporting practical improvement tasks around machinery, equipment and site processes Helping keep maintenance records accurate and up to date Assisting with general site maintenance tasks Keeping engineering areas, tools, spares and equipment organised What We’re Looking For Essential Genuine interest in mechanical engineering and hands-on work Practical mindset and willingness to learn Reliable, punctual and able to follow instructions Comfortable working in a factory or manufacturing environment Good attitude towards Health and Safety Willing to get involved in a range of tasks, including machinery support and general site maintenance Able to work as part of a small team Keen to develop a long-term career in maintenance engineering Desirable Engineering, mechanical, maintenance or manufacturing-related college qualification Some experience using hand tools or working on mechanical equipment Basic understanding of machinery, mechanical components, motors, bearings, belts, conveyors or fabrication Previous practical experience in a workshop, garage, farm, factory, engineering environment or similar Interest in completing an apprenticeship or structured training route Some exposure to manufacturing, production machinery or site maintenance Training and Development Full training and day-to-day guidance will be provided.
