Bowles is an independent charitable trust located at the stunning Bowles Rocks on the border of East Sussex and Kent. A leader in outdoor learning for schools and colleges, the work is diverse, and we also deliver Learning & Development for business, recreational activities for children and developmental experiences for disadvantaged young adults. The venue has 2 dry ski slopes, ropes courses, indoor heated pool, two accommodation blocks, 9 other ancillary buildings, sandstone rock outcrop in the grounds and woodland activity areas.
Summary
We are seeking a General Maintenance professional to join our dedicated team. They will support the success of the charity, working with our maintenance and wider staff team to ensure that all buildings, accommodation and grounds are well maintained and fit for purpose. All work is expected to be of a high standard and is in accordance with H&S requirements and current legislation..
The person will be self-motivated, well organised and able to work using their own initiative within sensible timeframes, it also involves working independently.
The work can be physically demanding, and it will involve manual handling. It will sometimes involve working in challenging environments, inside and out and in all weather.
There is flexibility around working days, which will include working mostly weekdays with occasional weekend work.
Responsibilities
Ensure the general upkeep of buildings, grounds and equipment to ensure they are safe and meet visitor and residents' needs
* Complete weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual maintenance tasks in accordance with the schedule set by the Maintenance Lead and Head of Facilities.
* Provide caretaking support for the site including general care and maintenance of the buildings and contents as needed (including decoration, carpentry and plumbing & changing light bulbs).
* Support the regular maintenance and inspection of company vehicles (minibuses, trailers, and tractors) to ensure they are of a roadworthy standard as well as clean and tidy.
Manage all support services to ensure they are of the required standard and meet our requirements (e.g., waste management and pest control).
* Ensure all equipment used is properly maintained and in good working order.
* Respond to maintenance requests in a methodical and timely manner.
* Act upon feedback from visitors to improve our premises and services.
Maintain the general upkeep of the grounds
* Ensure the grounds and external areas are clean and tidy at all times.
* Complete weekly garden tasks including mowing, weeding, hedging, watering, sweeping, strimming, tidying and ensure cleanliness of all outside areas.
* Ensure all equipment used is properly maintained and in good working order.
Help to ensure visitor needs are met
* Work as part of the Bowles team to provide maintenance of activity areas, residential areas and other items as needed.
* Drive the minibus/van for the transportation of visitors and equipment within the local area (minibus training will be provided).
Being part of the team
* Take an active role in the wider work of Bowles.
* Assist with and take part in Bowles events as appropriate.
* Undertake all necessary training as required by Bowles.
Legal requirements
* Adhere to health and safety, fire risk, food hygiene, COSHH and other statutory regulations.
Qualifications
Essential requirements
* Experience of general maintenance duties should include carpentry; decorating; basic plumbing; non-specialist building maintenance work.
* Experience in grounds maintenance and the use of grounds equipment.
* Willingness to go the distance to get things done.
* Exceptional multi-tasking skills and ability to prioritise.
* Ability to plan ahead.
* Excellent timekeeping.Valid full clean driving license
* Excellent all round fitness and ability to lift heavy items.
Desirable requirements
* Knowledge of the various areas of compliance including site-specific Health and Safety issues.
* Experience in IT use to monitor, record findings and follow up any required actions.
* D1 driving license
