Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Provide a Specialty Doctor Ophthalmology service for day cases and out-patients, with continuing responsibility for the patients, their care and for the effective functioning of the department
* Provide a specialist lacrimal and oculoplastic expertise for the Trust to serve the local population
* Carry out teaching duties as required and to take an active part in the education programme of junior medical staff, nurses and AHPs
* Provide supervision and training to junior hospital doctors
* Participate in clinical audit, evidence-based practice and clinical governance within the department
* Participate in regional sub-speciality audit and clinical governance to participate actively in continuing professional development (CPD)
Person specification
Qualifications
* MB ChB or equivalent
* Full registration with the GMC
* ALS or equivalent
* MRCOphth or equivalent
Experience
* Able to carry our BLS to a standard that accords with the UK Resuscitation Council guidelines
* Experience of Ophthalmic surgery
* Experiences of AMD services
* Experience of Diabetic Screening services
* Completed audit projects
Skills
* Good communicator and team player
* Ability to keep good clinical records
* Ability to take a clinical history and examine patients commensurate with a mid-grade member of medical staff
* Teaching and training experience
* Leadership roles – clinical or management
Additional
* Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary and without hesitation
