We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join the Engineering & Manufacturing department within the FMCG industry. This permanent role is based in Accrington and focuses on maintaining and repairing machinery to ensure optimal performance. Client Details The organisation is a well-established company within the FMCG industry. As a medium-sized enterprise, they specialise in high-quality manufacturing and are known for their dedication to operational excellence. Description As the Mechanical fitter you will be tasked with the following; Maintenance & Repair Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production machinery, conveyors, mixers, packaging equipment, and utilities. Diagnose mechanical faults and perform effective breakdown repairs to minimise downtime. Replace and refurbish mechanical components such as bearings, belts, chains, gearboxes, pumps, and valves.Compliance & Safety Ensure all work complies with food safety, hygiene, and GMP requirements. Adhere to site health & safety policies, including lock-out/tag-out procedures. Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure work is completed to audit-ready standards.Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to improve machine reliability and performance. Support root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring faults. Assist in engineering improvement projects and equipment upgrades.Operational Support Collaborate closely with the nights hygiene team to ensure smooth operation and reliable start up of production on day shift Provide technical support during product changeovers and start-ups. Assist with installation and commissioning of new machinery. Profile A successful Mechanical Fitter should have: Relevant qualifications in mechanical engineering or a related field. Practical experience in a manufacturing or FMCG environment. Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on efficiency. Knowledge of health and safety protocols in an engineering context. The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
