We are working with a highly regarded and fast-growing consultancy at the forefront of the UK and Ireland's Utilities and Infrastructure sector. With a strong focus on delivering critical infrastructure projects that support the journey to Net Zero, our client is expanding their Environmental and Planning division and seeking an experienced Senior Town Planner (Principal Planner) to join their team.
This is an opportunity to work on a wide range of high-impact projects, including capital development schemes and complex planning applications across utility and infrastructure sectors. You'll be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment that values technical expertise, innovation, and sustainability.
The Role
As a Senior/Principal Planner, your responsibilities will include:
* Leading or managing a small team to deliver a variety of environmental planning services, including planning applications, feasibility assessments, screening and scoping reports, and technical documentation.
* Taking the lead on planning work for projects of varying complexity and environmental sensitivity.
* Acting as the main point of contact for clients, local authorities, and internal technical teams.
* Advising on planning strategies and legislation across multiple jurisdictions within the UK.
* Mentoring and supporting junior staff while fostering a collaborative team culture.
* Contributing to business development by identifying new work opportunities and supporting bids and proposals.
About You
The ideal candidate will:
* Hold a degree in a relevant planning discipline.
* Be a Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI).
* Have demonstrable experience managing planning work within the infrastructure or utilities sectors.
* Possess strong analytical and communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Be commercially aware and confident in client-facing roles.
* Have a sound understanding of UK planning legislation and environmental regulations.
* Be self-motivated, organised, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
* Hold a full UK driving licence.
Desirable Skills
* Experience with GIS systems.
* Understanding of environmental technical disciplines and how they inform planning processes.
