Overview
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Building Construction Project Manager to join our established Building Control consultancy in London. This role suits someone who thrives in a technical, compliance‑driven environment and can confidently manage construction projects while ensuring full adherence to UK Building Regulations, with particular strength in buildability, structural coordination, and practical construction solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
Manage multiple construction projects from early design stages through to completion within the Building Control framework.
Coordinate project timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder expectations to ensure smooth progression and regulatory compliance.
Conduct site inspections, assess works against approved plans, and identify non‑compliance issues early.
Maintain detailed project documentation, including inspection reports, risk assessments, and compliance records.Building Control and Compliance
Apply strong working knowledge of UK Building Regulations, Approved Documents, and London‑specific requirements.
Review architectural, structural, and M&E drawings for compliance with Building Regulations.
Provide clear technical advice on compliance pathways, regulatory obligations, and practical construction solutions.
Liaise with Local Authority Building Control (LABC), Approved Inspectors, Fire Authorities, and other statutory bodies.
Support the issuing of compliance certificates and ensure all regulatory processes are completed accurately and on time.Buildability and Structural Coordination
Assess design proposals for buildability, sequencing, and practical construction feasibility.
Identify structural risks or coordination issues early and propose safe, cost‑effective solutions.
Work closely with structural engineers to ensure structural designs align with Building Regulations and site conditions.
Review temporary works proposals, structural alterations, and load‑bearing elements for compliance and practicality.
Advise clients and contractors on construction methods, material suitability, and site‑specific constraints.Stakeholder Engagement
Build strong working relationships with developers, architects, structural engineers, contractors, and consultants.
Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Attend project meetings, design reviews, and site progress sessions across London.Risk and Quality Management
Identify compliance risks, structural concerns, and buildability challenges, offering practical solutions.
Ensure all works meet high standards of quality, safety, and regulatory integrity.
Promote best practice in construction safety, sustainability, and regulatory compliance.Skills and Experience Required
Proven experience as a Project Manager within construction, building control, structural engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Strong working knowledge of UK Building Regulations, including structural safety, fire safety, and London‑specific requirements.
Experience reviewing structural drawings, calculations, and temporary works proposals.
Strong understanding of buildability principles and practical construction methodologies.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder‑management skills.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Relevant qualifications in construction, engineering, surveying, or building control (e.g., MCIOB, MRICS, CABE, MEng) are highly desirable.
