OVERVIEW
The Land-GBAD programme will deliver a complex system of layered and digitally
connected air defence capabilities delivered through capability uplifts between now
and the early 2030s.
The Land-GBAD will develop new equipment and systems, as well as developing
and extending legacy equipment, offering continued effectiveness against air
threats, well into the 2030s. Key to Land-GBAD, is improving sensors and
networked command and control to give better situational awareness. There is
also a need to defeat new and evolving threats such as small Uncrewed Air
Systems (UAS) and loitering munitions.
Successful systems integration will be critical to optimise military capability for
Land-GBAD. Within this timeframe legacy equipment will be run-on and new
capability uplifts will be incrementally introduced. Careful management of the
programme at a Systems of Systems level will be key to ensure the benefits of
the new capability are unleashed.
Land-GBAD has key dependencies and interactions with many programmes such
as the BOXER Strategic Pipeline and Land Environment Tactical CIS Programme
(LE TacCIS). Novel Weapons (Direct Energy Weapons) are also being considered
for later increments.
