Job Summary
To install /commission customers fire alarm systems and associated equipment inline with the current regulations liaising with the Worksdepartment/Project Managers to ensure best practice and the mostcosteffective solution. To support other engineers to ensure thatthey are competent to complete the work allocated to them andfollow all Company and Health and Safety practices and procedures.To work as a team with colleagues and the Engineering team to buildon the companys reputation in quality and customerservice.
PrincipalResponsibilities
* Undertake thecommissioning of fire detection and other associated systemsprovided that adequate training has been received to be competentin the associated products to ensure that the system meets thespecified requirements for theproject.
* Liaise at alltimes with the Project engineer/manager responsible for thedelivery of the project.
* Carry out all othernecessary works required at customer premises in accordance withthe Companys quality standards.
* Effectivelycommunicate with customers to ensure a good understanding of systemand site status particularly system defects that affect its correctfunction.
* Provide technical support andguidance to allocated Engineers.
* Liaise withthe administrators to ensure commitments are met diary
* Competence to review a programme of works and RAMs.
* Ensure legible and own timely completion ofall company paperwork in line with Company requirements as well asthe paperwork of allocated engineers.
* Abilityto review a cause & effects matrix and implementprogramming around that
* Ability to review andspec from the client and build a C&E matrix.
* Work with the Line Manager to ensure EngineeringDepartment runs smoothly.
* The ability to be to demonstrate to the client and linemanager all cause & effects programming via software andlive tests.
* Plan own work if required and alsocarry out minor additions to existing installations in line with aline managers instruction.
* Be responsible forthe management and security of own equipment stock in an efficientand economical manner by determining stock levels in relation towork activities and ordering stock items as and whenappropriate.
* Operate in accordance with theCompany Handbook and all Company and customers quality standardsand health and safety requirements.
* Pass onany potential leads for further business to the relevant SalesManager.
* Discuss any suggestions for systemimprovement with your line Manager.
* Attendtraining sessions identified by the Company and identify andcommunicate to your line manager any personal training anddevelopmentneeds.
Accountablefor:
* Leaving customerswith fully functioning fire detection and alarm systems unless yourline manager/Customer has been informed of the reasons thatcompletion is not possible before leaving the premises.
* All own documentation is completed and reaches therequired destinations within agreed time limits.
* Ensuring that customers are always satisfied with yourwork.
Scope ofFinancial Authority
* To arrange orders and collect goodsup to a value of 500 when necessary to complete works in the duetime.
* To maximise overhead recovery and reducecosts.
* To organise and feedback information toincrease cost efficiencies.

Skills:
* Able to commission afire detection and alarm system in line with manufacturersrecommendations.
* To ensure that as installeddrawings tally with the finished project and communicate anyvariances to the Project Manager.
* Able tofully test every aspect of the installed system in line withmanufacturers recommendations and the projectspecification.
* Able toidentify all types of cable associated with fire detection andalarm systems and to correctly test and terminate the cable ends inaccordance with manufacturers instructions.
* Able to develop and diagnose Cause and Effect softwarefor the relevant control equipment and to plan a full C & Etest as part of the Commissioning process.
* Able to operate all required test equipment.
* Demonstrates a logical approach to system fault diagnosisand rectification.
* Understands different typesof cable containment systems.
* Deals withcustomers endusers construction personnel and inhouse staff in aprofessional manner.
* Verbal and writtencommunication skills
* High level of ability inthe use of bespoke manufacturers Software programmes and Windowsbased Computerusage.
Technicalknowledge:
* Has a soundknowledge of control and field equipment and be able to carry outcommissioning fault rectification and repairs.
* Understands the basic building service systems e.g. airconditioning ventilation systems.
* Has acomprehensive understanding of the causes and cures of fire alarmproblems including an ability to recommend changes to practices andprocesses that may cause false alarms as well as changes to thefire detection and alarm system.
* Completednumerous units of FIA
* Manufacturer trainedfor whatever equipment expected to operate.
* All conventional fire alarm systems
* Ideally a qualified electrician (City & Guilds236 Pt2 Pt3) or equivalent
* Other supervisorytraining as the Companydecides.
Standards:
* Conversantwith the appropriate servicing and installation clauses within therelevant parts of BS 5839 P1 2017 & Building Regulationsand be capable of applying these standards to the commissioning ofthe system.
* To operatebusiness processes within the framework of ISO9001 andLPS1014
Documentation:
* Able to read preparedplans and technical sketches repair systems in accordance withinformation provided and record changes to and the location ofequipment on the installation drawings and the O & Mmanual.
* Identifies andreports the requirement for new and additional works to the lineManager.
* Accuratelycompletes appropriate paperwork in line with Companyrequirements
* Calculatesthe incidence of false alarms and prepares advice for the customeron the implications of theseincidents.
* To complete alldocumentation in line with Company requirements and ensure allengineers in the team have their paperwork completed on time andsent into theoffice.
Health andSafety:
* Has completedand fully complies with the necessary H & S training asrequired. As a minimum this will be the ECS Health and SafetyAssessment.
* Fully understands and complieswith the Companys health and safety procedures and have signed upto the Trinity Health & Safety blueprint.
* Reports safety issues responsibly and participates inimproving practice.
