We are looking for a motivated and organised individual to join Fife Council’s School Transport Team. You will help plan and deliver safe, efficient and cost‑effective transport for children and young people across Fife, including those with Additional Support Needs. The School Transport team is responsible for arranging home to school transport for over 13,000 pupils travelling daily on buses, taxis and minibuses at a cost to the Council of £19M.
In this role, you’ll arrange new transport, amend and update existing contracts, assess transport entitlement, design specifications for taxi and minibus journeys and liaise with transport providers, schools, parents and other services. You will also be responsible for ordering and issuing of transport equipment. You will be required to investigate and resolve day‑to‑day issues and complaints and negotiate contract costs with transport providers. The postholder will assist in walking route assessments and on‑site checks for bus and taxi or minibus monitoring.
We’re looking for someone with strong organisational and problem‑solving skills, who can manage a busy workload and communicate clearly with a wide range of people. You should be comfortable making decisions based on Council policy and using IT systems to maintain accurate information.
The Person
You should be/have:
1. Educated to SCQF Level 6 (., Highers or SVQ Level 3).
2. Experience of working as part of a team
3. The ability to make informed decisions and use your own initiative to find a solution.
4. Have strong organisational and problem‑solving skills and experience of working to tight deadlines.
5. Good communication skills and experience of dealing with the public.
6. Excellent IT skills, including the use of Microsoft applications and the ability to update and maintain accurate data within transport management systems.
Knowledge of Fife Council School Transport Policy and relevant legislation is helpful but not essential.
