Overview / Role
We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic, organised and conscientious Discipline Lead to develop our Environmental Assessment services across the UK. The role involves business development, expanding work across Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), influencing JBA’s strategic direction and shaping the resilience to climate change initiatives.
Your role
You will diversify and expand our EIA and SEA services for existing and new clients, identify and pursue new sector and client opportunities aligned with our Service Plan, and manage and prepare winning tenders and framework submissions. You will lead on best practice in delivery, champion technical and professional development, and maintain our ISEP EIA Quality Mark accreditation. Working closely with clients you will build strong partnerships, shaping how we work and ensuring our approach is open and forward‑thinking. You will share knowledge, research and innovation initiatives across JBA and externally.
You will manage complex projects and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions and deliver consent for projects. Provide company‑wide technical leadership and excellence in EIA, SA and SEA, guiding multi‑disciplinary deliverables from planning through to post‑consent delivery.
Qualifications
* Undergraduate or postgraduate degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Assessment, Environmental Management, Planning, related subject, or demonstrable professional experience evidencing technical expertise.
* Professional accreditation with ISEP (preferably CEnv) or another relevant professional body e.g. RTPI.
Essential Attributes for the Role
* A track record in business development, leading and expanding work across new clients and sectors.
* Experience managing and preparing multidisciplinary tender and framework submissions.
* Excellent understanding of environmental legislation, policy, guidance and emerging trends.
* Evidence of strategic thinking to focus innovation, diversification and development of new work streams.
* Track record of project delivery, commercial and programme awareness, confidence working with clients.
* Demonstrable experience leading EIA, SA and SEA projects across different sectors.
* Ability to collaborate within, and influence, a multidisciplinary team delivering large, complex projects.
* Management of discipline teams for growth through strategic visioning, mentoring, coaching and professional development.
Desirable Attributes for the Role
* Experience leading assessment for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects / Development Consent Order submissions.
* Experience with a wide range of environmental permits and consents (ecological, FRAP, waste, etc).
* Understanding of environmental assessment, management and monitoring during construction.
* Experience delivering innovation in assessment and design.
* Experience in regulated water, energy, coastal and river settings.
Location and Work Flexibility
Hybrid working supported with flexibility. Attendance at office required on a regular basis. Role base location flexible across available offices, with significant cross‑office working expected.
