Position: Electronics Assembly Technician Reporting: EMS Plant Manager Location: Berkshire Summary: My client specialises in the design and manufacture of advanced RF electronics and communication systems. They lead in high technology products for the defence and law enforcement sectors. My client is going through rapid expansion and are now establishing manufacturing in the UK. Due to the security nature of the sector my client operates, candidates will go through initial assessment and vetting before more information about the company is divulged. Position Overview: The Electronics Assembly Technician is responsible for the assembly of electromechanical products and sub-assemblies, in line with defined work instructions, engineering documentation, and quality standards. The role involves the accurate assembly of mechanical parts, electrical wiring, and electronic components, to produce finished products that meet specification, performance, and safety requirements. Working within a structured electronics manufacturing environment, the Electromechanical Assembler supports an efficient production flow, maintains high standards of workmanship, and contributes to on-time delivery to meet production targets and continuous improvement initiatives. The role requires close adherence to quality, ESD, and health and safety procedures while working collaboratively with Production, Engineering, and Quality Assurance Departments. Key Responsibilities: Assemble electromechanical products and sub-assemblies in accordance with engineering drawings, work instructions, and build documentation. Carry out mechanical assembly, including fitting of housings, brackets, fasteners, and fixtures. Perform electrical and electronic assembly, including wiring, crimping, soldering, and cable assembly. Install electronic components, PCBs, and sub-assemblies into mechanical enclosures (box build assembly). Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, and assembly drawings accurately. Use hand tools, power tools, and assembly equipment safely and correctly. Perform basic functional checks or continuity tests as defined in production instructions. Ensure assemblies meet quality, workmanship, and specification requirements. Identify, report, and assist with the resolution of assembly defects or build issues. Record production and assembly information in relevant manufacturing or quality systems. Follow ESD control procedures when handling sensitive electronic components. Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workstation in line with health and safety requirements. Support rework, modification, or repair activities when required. Assist with New Product Introduction (NPI) builds and prototype assemblies. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to assembly efficiency and quality. General Qualifications: Previous experience in an electronics or electromechanical assembly/manufacturing environment. Experience in electronic board and device production with a focus on precision assembly. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly instructions, schematics, and wiring diagrams. Practical experience with mechanical assembly, including use of hand tools and power tools. Experience with electrical wiring, crimping, soldering, and cable assembly. Familiarity with electromechanical components, PCBs, connectors, fasteners, and enclosures. Understanding of ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) control and safe handling of electronic components. High attention to detail and commitment to quality and workmanship standards. Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions accurately. Basic computer skills for recording build data or production tracking. Awareness of health and safety requirements in a manufacturing environment. Ability and motivated to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Physically capable of performing assembly and manual handling tasks in line with safety guidelines. Willingness to undertake training and develop technical assembly skills. Completed training in IPC-A-620 and IPC-J-STD-001 (or similar).
