Job Description
As the Lead Wind Converter Upgrades Engineer, your role involves modernizing wind turbine converter systems. You will work on client sites as part of a cross-functional team to carry out upgrades. The focus will be on upgrading wind converters, but opportunities may also include other upgrade projects involving Medium Voltage & Low Voltage converters, motors, transformers, E-house, switchgear, and control systems.
In This Role You Will Focus On
* Designing, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and remotely diagnosing wind turbine converters and related power equipment.
* Performing troubleshooting activities on-site to diagnose issues, determine solutions, and implement corrective actions.
* Using internal software to write PLC/converter code with industry-standard function blocks.
* Reviewing AutoCAD and EPLAN drawings.
* Setting up hardware in labs and demonstrating Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) to clients.
* Communicating project progress to management.
* This role involves a mix of office work and domestic/international travel (5-10%).
Essential Qualifications
* Degree in Electrical Engineering (HNC, HND, BEng, BSc) or equivalent, or experience in an industrial electrical environment.
* Basic knowledge of PLC programming principles.
* Understanding of power conversion principles for wind turbines.
* A growth mindset and willingness to learn in a rapidly evolving field.
What Will Make You Stand Out
* Experience in heavy industry, especially wind energy.
* Knowledge of control schemes involving switchgear, protection, PLCs, HMIs, and converters.
* Experience in commissioning wind turbine converter systems.
* Power systems experience related to transformers and switchgear.
