Barnsley ICU is a 13 bed unit providingintensive care and support for Level 2 and Level 3 acutely unwell patients.As a Caresupport worker, you will work under the guidance of a Registered Nurse and helpto provide excellent standards of nursing care. You will work closely with thenursing and medical team, whilst also supporting other members of the MDT. Youwill be expected to have already completed the Care certificate and Band 3relevant clinical skills to apply for this position. Once completed you willprogress to complete specific Critical care competencies package as part ofyour Band 3 role.
Your ability to work as a valued team memberis essential.
Main duties of the job
* Offer enhanced care with a flexible learning approach for all our patients.
* Work in the clinical area, providing guidance and encouragement to patients through physical and emotional support.
* Maintain a safe, clean and enjoyable environment.
* Assist patients with their medical and welfare needs, and report as required.
* Learn about individuals specific needs and provide help in the most appropriate way.
* Washing and dressing patients and aiding in their personal care
* Assisting and encouraging patients with their rehabilitation during a critical care episode
* Serving meals and helping to feed patients
* helping patients to safely move around
* Assisting with bed making, cleaning tasks, errands, or general duties
* Collecting pathological specimens e.g., Urine, faeces, sputum
* Making patients and their families feel comfortable

Person Specification

Experience
* At least 6 months of care experience working in a health or social care setting.
Knowledge and Awareness
* Confidentiality understanding of Information Governance
* Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety
* Knowledge of clinical patient observations
* Willingness to undertake competencies supported by clinical skills training and education to gain theoretical underpinning knowledge in a range of clinical interventions and use of test equipment e.g. blood glucose monitors, venepuncture, cannulation etc.
* Knowledge and understanding of current healthcare issues
Qualifications
* Care Certificate
* Completion of a clinical skills competency- based workbook or equivalent relevant experience to vocational qualification level 3, or willingness to undertake.
* GCSE Maths & English or qualified to equivalent Functional skills level 2 in Maths & English, or willingness to undertake.
