Team/Role Overview
Citi’s Legal Department in Belfast is a team of approximately 120 staff, covering a range of products and services across Citi’s Europe, UK, Middle East, and Africa Cluster. The Belfast Legal Department provides services, support, and advice to various business areas, including transaction negotiation, master agreement negotiation, and oversight of compliance and regulatory requirements. The role involves active engagement with the business, primarily based in Belfast, with daily interaction across the cluster. The Associate Legal Counsel supports the Belfast Investor Services Legal team, working closely with product desks across Europe, UK, Middle East, and Africa, and assisting senior lawyers in the Global Custody Legal team. The role involves advising on legal and regulatory risks related to Custody client relationships, supporting global custody legal models, and participating in global projects.
What you’ll do
* Support senior lawyers in advising the Custody business on legal risks, including negotiations with key clients, risk issues arising outside of BAU, and regulatory changes.
* Negotiate custody legal documentation with internal and external parties, adhering to internal guidelines.
* Provide legal guidance on product development, including drafting and reviewing transaction documentation and contracts.
* Maintain reports on negotiation progress and ensure proper documentation management.
* Advise on legal risks of documentation changes and manage legal activities, serving as a subject matter expert.
* Build relationships with internal stakeholders to assess and implement regulatory requirements and participate in RFPs.
* Assist in managing external counsel and budgeting, ensuring compliance with Citibank’s policies.
What we’ll need from you
* Relevant industry experience, preferably in in-house legal roles within financial services.
* Ability to manage complex documentation with attention to detail.
* Excellent interpersonal and project management skills, with effective communication with senior management.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
* Deep knowledge of legal practices and financial services industry.
* A high-quality academic record with a Bachelor’s or University degree in law.
