Mech Electrics is recruiting a Mechanical Site Manager to support a hospital decarbonisation project at James Cook University Hospital. You’ll lead mechanical site delivery across a live NHS environment, with a long‑term role in the North East team.
About Us – Mech Electrics
Mech Electrics is a specialist recruitment partner within the built environment, supporting MEP contractors and energy delivery businesses working on complex, operational buildings.
We’re currently supporting a long‑term healthcare decarbonisation programme across the North East, and have been appointed to identify experienced Mechanical Site Managers to join the regional delivery team.
The Opportunity
This role is based initially at James Cook University Hospital, supporting a mechanical decarbonisation scheme delivered within a live clinical environment.
The project focuses on:
* Mechanical plant upgrades
* Low‑carbon heating solutions, including heat pumps
* Infrastructure works across an operational hospital estate
While this project forms the immediate need, the role is intended as a long‑term position within the North East delivery team, supporting future healthcare and public‑sector projects across the region.
Candidates based locally are encouraged to apply, but those open to travel and lodging during the working week will also be considered.
The Role
As Mechanical Site Manager, you’ll be responsible for the day‑to‑day management of mechanical works on site, ensuring safe, efficient and high‑quality delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
* Managing mechanical site delivery within a live hospital
* Supervising subcontractors and direct labour
* Coordinating site activities and daily work plans
* Enforcing health & safety standards and procedures
* Reviewing and implementing RAMS
* Liaising with Project Management and engineering teams
* Working with hospital stakeholders to minimise disruption
* Managing quality, progress and site reporting
* Supporting commissioning and handover activities
You’ll be a visible, trusted presence on site — someone who keeps work moving and problems under control.
What We’re Looking For
This role would suit an experienced Mechanical Site Manager who enjoys working in structured, regulated environments.
* Proven Mechanical Site Manager or Supervisor experience
* Background in healthcare, public‑sector or complex buildings
* Comfortable working in live operational sites
* Experience with mechanical plant, infrastructure or low‑carbon systems
* Strong knowledge of site safety, RAMS and sequencing
* Confident managing subcontractors and site issues
* SMSTS (or SSSTS with strong experience)
* Full UK driving licence
Why This Role Stands Out
* Hospital‑based project with real purpose
* Secure, long‑term position within the North East team
* Stable workload beyond the initial project
* Support available for travel and lodging where required
* Delivery‑focused, no‑nonsense environment
