Overview
Using a person-centred approach, you will look after the physical, emotional, cultural and social needs of service users. This includes personal care, assisting with meals and all aspects of daily living. You will provide person-centred care through social activities that promote residents’ mental health and wellbeing and improve their quality of life. You will be a key worker for specific service users, responsible for ensuring information about their health and wellbeing is monitored and recorded using electronic care planning (Nourish) and for communicating this information and any concerns to the team leaders. The role involves supporting a diverse group of service users with a wide range of care needs, including challenging behaviour, and you will be required to undertake person moving and handling duties.
There is a need for light food preparation and light cleaning tasks to keep the environment clean in line with infection control guidance. With patience and empathy, you will understand the needs of people with different types of dementia and physical disabilities. You should be able to converse with service users who have cognitive impairment and provide advice in accurate spoken English which is essential for the post. With experience in a caring role as a formal paid or unpaid carer you will understand the importance of residents’ dignity, privacy and choice, and apply this in practice. You should be flexible and adaptable, able to work in a team as well as independently, use your own initiative and make decisions while dealing with emergencies in a confident manner. Computer skills are required to update care plans electronically and to use e-learning. You will be required to participate in training and development which will contribute towards your framework and study for QCF at level 2/3 (or equivalent) in Social Care and undertake learning to complete the Care Certificate (previously CIS) within your probation period.
