About the role
* Responsible for delivering the health, safety, and environmental risk strategy as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.
* Implementing ISO certified safety and environmental management systems.
* Acting as the Subject Matter Expert for Smiths News on health and safety, environmental risk, and safety culture, including all road transport and operational yard safety at Smiths News and third-party locations.
* Owning the company's health and safety policies, training, and audit regimes, ensuring adequate arrangements are in place and properly managed.
* Delivering Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness programs in collaboration with the Head of Safety and Risk, fostering positive behaviors and a just safety culture.
* Maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders interested in the company's safety and legal compliance, such as the HSE, DVSA, local authorities, and trade bodies.
* Ensuring incidents and accidents are thoroughly investigated by trained colleagues, with proper escalation and communication with external stakeholders like emergency services and media.

About you
* Nebosh Level 3 or equivalent qualification
* Experience with ISO 45001 and integrated systems
* Auditing qualifications and experience
* Environmental risk management qualifications
* Extensive accident investigation experience, including root cause analysis
* Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to negotiate and influence at senior levels
* A valid UK driving license (company car may be provided)
