At Bath & North East Somerset Council, our primary purpose is to improve people's lives.
We are advertising an exciting new position within the busy and fast-paced Social Care Payments Team: a job share role for the position of Senior Direct Payment Officer.
About the Role
The Social Care Payments Team makes payments to providers and carers on behalf of our Children’s and Adults Social Care Teams. These include payments for commissioned services and Direct Payments. Each area has a Senior Finance Officer overseeing payments.
This role is within our Direct Payment Team. As individuals use direct payments to choose and manage their care, this promotes greater choice, control, and independence. To manage increased workload and offer pre-paid card solutions, we seek a part-time Senior Direct Payment Officer to job share with the current postholder. The successful candidate will work closely with the existing officer, sharing responsibilities for payment approvals, auditing, monitoring, reporting, and line management of two Direct Payment Officers.
About You
Ideally, you have experience working within a Council, NHS, or education setting, with advantageous experience in Social Care and understanding of Direct Payment policies. You should possess strong analysis, numeracy, auditing, reconciliation, and monitoring skills, with the ability to interpret complex information. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Experience in line management, supporting staff with challenging behaviors, and leading projects is desirable.
This is a job share position, working part-time across 14.5 hours. The current postholder works 22.5 hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Flexibility in how the hours are worked is considered, but some coverage on Mondays and Fridays is necessary. The role involves a mix of remote and office work at the Civic Centre in Keynsham.
