Job Summary
We are looking to employ an enthusiastic radiographer/mammographer to join our team on a fixed term basis to cover maternity leave until September 2026. We are the Chelmsford and Colchester Breast Screening Unit serving the population of North and Mid‑Essex. This post is part time up to 30 hours per week.
We have three mobile units covering 11 screening sites including Clacton, Braintree, Brentwood and Chelmsford.
Two major hospitals are within our catchment area so working in rapid diagnostic clinics is part of the weekly workload. Both Broomfield and Colchester hospitals are equipped with state of the art GE Pristina mammography machines; 2D and 3D are regularly used in assessment clinics and in Colchester CEM (Contrast‑Enhanced Mammography) has been introduced.
A qualified mammographer holding a Post‑Graduate Award in Mammography is essential for this post.
We would welcome you for an informal visit. Internal applicants currently employed by ESNEFT will be offered on a secondment basis only.
Main Duties
* To produce high‑quality mammographic images, within the NHS Breast Screening Programme and symptomatic mammography services across North and Mid‑Essex, at both static and mobile sites.
* To participate in an effective quality control programme to maintain the highest of standards as required by the NHSBSP.
* To work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide the highest standards of patient care.
* To provide professional supervision and guidance to all more junior members of staff.
* To participate in continuing professional development and other developmental activities.
* To act as an information resource for clerical staff, radiography students and all visitors to the Breast Unit and cascade knowledge to trainee mammography radiographers and assistant practitioners.
Advanced practice is supported within the department with radiographers performing film reading, interventional procedures, cannulating for CEM and carrying out audits. A robust appraisal system is in place and staff wellbeing and patient experience are at the heart of everything we do.
