Job Advert: Full-Time Driver / Support Worker
Location: Greenock
Hours: Full-Time (hours to be discussed at interview)
Salary: £12.60 p/h
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and professional Driver / Support Worker to provide full-time support for a young male service user. This role requires more than transportation – it is about ensuring he is supported to engage meaningfully in daily life, access the community, and communicate using his preferred methods.
The successful candidate will demonstrate patience, attentiveness, and a commitment to supporting individual communication needs in a calm and consistent manner.
About Him
He is a young man with a bright smile who communicates in his own unique way. He is non-verbal but makes choices using gestures, looks, and by reaching. He enjoys sensory activities, music, and real objects, and he lights up when fully engaged. He responds best in quiet, calm environments where he feels comfortable and supported.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide safe and reliable transport to activities, appointments, and outings.
* Support the service user to make choices through his preferred communication methods, including gestures, eye gaze, symbols, and a step-by-step communicator.
* Use communication aids consistently, including the symbol folder and voice output device, encouraging their use throughout the day.
* Create and maintain a calm, quiet, and supportive environment.
* Recognise signs of engagement (e.g., smiling, vocalisations) and disengagement, and adapt activities accordingly.
* Encourage meaningful participation in sensory activities, stories, and music.
* Ensure the communicator device is regularly updated with a range of messages, songs, and stories.
Communication
* He uses symbols, a symbol folder, and a step-by-step communicator to support his communication.
* He benefits from consistency, time, and encouragement to make choices.
* His communicator is activated using his hand (most often his left), and he enjoys when it's filled with messages, songs, or stories throughout the day.
Role Responsibilities
* Driving him safely to appointments, activities, and outings.
* Supporting him to make choices and engage in activities he enjoys.
* Using communication tools (symbols, symbol folder, and communicator) consistently throughout the day.
* Creating a calm and quiet environment where he feels secure.
* Encouraging him, celebrating his smile and vocalisations, and recognising when he is ready to try something new.
* Providing patient, attentive, and reliable support.
What We're Looking For
* A full, clean driving licence.
* Someone patient, observant, and reliable.
* Experience working with people with communication needs and epilepsy is desirable, but full training will be provided.
* A supportive nature with the ability to encourage choice, independence, and fun.
