Neonatal Community Staff Nurse

We are seeking an experienced Neonatal Staff Nurse who holds a relevant specialist qualification or demonstrates a clear willingness to undertake further professional development within the specialty.

The post holder will play a vital role in promoting and delivering high-quality, evidence-based care for neonates, ensuring that clinical practice supports the best possible outcomes for patients and their families. You will provide expert support, advice, and guidance to colleagues across both hospital and community settings.

A key aspect of the role will involve supporting the safe and effective discharge of babies from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Transitional Care. This includes undertaking home visits to assess ongoing care needs, monitor progress, and ensure families feel confident and supported in caring for their child.

In addition, you will work closely with the NICU Nurse in Charge, contributing to the smooth and efficient day‑to‑day running of the unit. Strong communication and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team are essential, enabling a coordinated, compassionate, and family‑centred approach to care.


Main duties of the job

* Ensure continuity across services, providing support and discharge for babies admitted to NICU and Transitional Care going home.
* Review and assess patients at home and prior to discharge from hospital.
* Must have a UK driving licence.


Qualifications and training

* Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC Register.
* Neonatal Qualified in Speciality course or willingness to undertake.
* Up to date NLS certification or willingness to undertake.


Experience

* At least 3 years working in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
* Qualified in neonatal speciality or willing to undertake.
* Knowledge of current developments in health care.
* Experience in change management.
* Experience of managing and leading a clinical area.
* Experience of participating in clinical audit or patient reviews.


Skills, abilities and knowledge

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work shifts and flexible approach to working hours and duties.
* Competency in advanced clinical skills including enhanced practice.
* Organisational and time management skills.
* Have a current Full UK Drivers Licence.
* Experience in lone working.
