Pay: £101.40 per day
Milk Education is partnering with a specialist SEMH and trauma-informed school in the Camden area to recruit an Aspiring Criminal Justice Officer. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about supporting young people with complex needs, including those who have experienced trauma, ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences), school refusal/avoidance and significant behavioural or emotional challenges.
You will gain invaluable frontline experience with young people who need consistent, trusted adults to help them remain engaged in education, regulate emotions, and make positive life choices. About the Role
You will support pupils aged 5–16 with SEMH needs, Autism, trauma backgrounds and school-refusing behaviours. Many pupils have experienced disrupted education or find mainstream learning overwhelming, making relationship-building and emotional regulation central to your role.
You will play a key role in:
1. Supporting emotional regulation and coping strategies during moments of distress
2. Re-engaging pupils who refuse learning or withdraw from the classroom
3. Providing consistency, stability and emotional safety for pupils who struggle to trust adults
Key Responsibilities
4. Provide personalised, relationship-based support to pupils with SEMH needs, Autism, trauma backgrounds and school-refusal behaviours.
5. Build consistent, trusting relationships, becoming a safe and reliable adult for pupils.
6. Use trauma-informed, restorative and de-escalation approaches to reduce behaviour escalation.
7. Implement behaviour and emotional regulation strategies, and support re-engagement interventions.
8. Promote resilience, positive communication and pro-social decision-making.
9. Work collaboratively with SENCOs, therapists, safeguarding leads and external agencies.
10. Record observations and track pupil progress, feeding back insight to staff and families.
11. Contribute to a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment.
Ideal Candidate
12. Degree (or studying) in Criminology, Psychology, Sociology, Youth Work, Social Care or related field is desirable but not essential.
13. Experience supporting or mentoring young people with challenging behaviour or disengagement is highly beneficial.
14. Calm, emotionally regulated and resilient, able to maintain boundaries with empathy.
15. Excellent communication, active listening and problem-solving skills.
16. Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply.
