WMS Solution Architect
Duration: Initial 6 Months
Location: Reading (Hybrid)
Contract Type: Inside IR35 Day Rate
We are seeking an experienced WMS Solution Architect to support the design, integration, and delivery of new capabilities across its supply chain and warehouse operations. This is a delivery‑focused contract role, centred on solution design, integration oversight, and operational readiness rather than long‑term strategy.
The role spans warehouse management processes, cloud‑native platforms, integrations, data, and service transition. You’ll work closely with business stakeholders, implementation teams, Supply Chain IT, Integration teams, Security, Service Management, vendors, and delivery partners to ensure that WMS capabilities are delivered in a secure, compliant, and production‑ready manner.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and assure end‑to‑end functional and technical solutions for the WMS implementations and enhancements
* Lead integration architecture between the WMS and upstream/downstream systems including Order Management, ERP, Transport, Labour Management, Automation/Robotics, and Reporting
* Ensure solutions meet non‑functional requirements such as performance, scalability, resilience, observability, and security
* Provide architectural oversight and validation for WMS configuration, extensions, and platform capabilities
* Ensure the WMS design aligns with Manhattan best‑practice patterns and enterprise architecture frameworks
* Work with Integration and Data teams to assure API models, event flows, interfaces, and data mappings
* Collaborate with Operations and Service Management to ensure alignment with ITSM processes, incident flows, support models, and service readiness
* Provide design governance throughout delivery, reviewing functional and technical specifications, sequence diagrams, and vendor artefacts
* Support UAT, cutover, hypercare, and transition to BAU, ensuring operational readiness and supportability
Essential Skills & Experience
* Strong experience as a Solution Architect within large‑scale supply chain or WMS transformation programmes
* Hands‑on architecture and delivery experience with WMS (cloud‑native, microservices)
* Deep understanding of warehouse operations: receiving, putaway, replenishment, picking, packing, loading, inventory, labour, automation integration
* Proven experience integrating WMS with ERP, Transport, Automation (MHE/WCS), and enterprise data platforms
* Strong knowledge of event‑driven and API‑based integration patterns (REST, async messaging, streaming)
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, able to articulate complex designs to technical and business teams
* Strong documentation and design assurance capability
Highly Desirable Expertise
* Experience with Integration Framework
* Knowledge of WCS integration patterns, including real‑time automation flows
* Experience with cloud‑native architectures (GCP, Azure, or SaaS environments)
* Exposure to supply chain visibility platforms and operational analytics
* Understanding of ITSM processes in a 24/7 logistics environment
* Security and compliance experience relating to SaaS supply chain platforms
