Offer description

Applications are invited for up to two Research Assistant positions in the group of Dr Edwige Moyroud at the Sainsbury Laboratory Cambridge University, to assist with tracking gene expression during pattern formation on petal epidermis. The successful applicant(s) will be part of a group that investigates the multiscale mechanisms of petal patterning using Hibiscus trionum as a model system. This work will require refining HCR whole-mount in situ hybridisation protocols suitable for Hibiscus trionum, developing a protocol for efficient knock-in in Hibiscus trionum, as well as generating and analysing genome edited and transgenic reporter lines using a method routinely used by all team members. These roles will also require the application of various cloning methods to construct plant transformation vectors as well as the use of microscopy techniques to characterise tissue anatomy and spatio-temporal expression patterns. Candidates must have a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in plant biology, development, genetics, molecular biology, cell biology or a related discipline. A strong foundation in various methods used to investigate gene expression is required, alongside a willingness and ability to work with a new model system and methodologies. The successful applicants will be eager to contribute to the work of the team, highly solution orientated and self-motivated. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential, alongside the ability to work independently and with others, with a high degree of accuracy including outstanding record keeping and good IT literacy. The Moyroud group is looking for a scientist keen to work in a highly collaborative set-up and enthusiastic to join and contribute to a diverse and interdisciplinary team that draws on the different experiences of its members.
