PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £41,200 – £49,133 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
This role exists to ensure the timely delivery of high‑quality, engaging, and legally sound news content to a diverse digital audience. As part of a dynamic news team covering one of the busiest regions in the South of England, you will play a key role in shaping the online news agenda by publishing stories on the BBC website and app, reaching millions worldwide. The position demands creativity, editorial rigor, and collaboration, helping journalists maximize the impact of their stories while maintaining the BBC’s editorial standards.

The South of England is an incredibly busy news patch and you will be ensuring that we deliver on the big breaking stories but also on the creation of original and exclusive content for our audience. You will be an integral part of the news team, working in a collaborative way with a variety of colleagues. You will also help to drive forward diversity and inclusivity across the output.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
* Publish news stories on the BBC website and app to a potential audience of millions worldwide and ensure the highest standards are met.
* Help our journalists achieve the most from their stories online, so they can have an impact on our local audience as well as further afield.
* Ensure stories are clearly written, legally sound and engaging to read.
* Possess a core understanding of journalism law and the importance of adhering to the BBC’s Editorial Guidelines and bring ideas for compelling content.
* Be comfortable with what audiences want from online news sources.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
* Experience of setting the news agenda and working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve this.
* Ability to tailor stories for different demographics and digital users.
* Experience of writing, subbing and publishing online content in a daily news environment and writing/editing news and feature articles for online and/or print outlets.
* Recognition of the importance of diversity and inclusivity within both your team and output.
* Strong grasp of written English and the ability to explain complicated concepts in easy‑to‑understand terms.
* Extensive history of working in local or regional news production environment.
* Understanding of SEO and social news techniques and familiarity with online content management systems.
