This is a key role within the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD). You will be responsible for all aspects of decontamination science duties, including providing specialised decontamination of medical devices, contributing to the clinical care of patients by receipt, disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, packing, and sterilisation of reusable medical devices, and recording all tasks in the tracking and tracing database.
The post holder will undertake all on‑the‑job training as deemed necessary to carry out their duties safely, work as part of a team, and communicate effectively.
The post is a shift pattern covering a 24/7 service.
Responsibilities
* Inspect the cleanliness/correctness of equipment and check items for durability.
* Participate in the packing of surgical instruments, soft packs, and comprehensive theatre packs.
* Learn about safety and operational aspects of machinery used in the departments.
* Complete any other duties deemed reasonable.
Communication and team relationships
* Participate in regular reviews of your own training programme in line with the development of departmental services.
* Identify problems that occur within CSSD and bring them to the attention of a supervisor.
* Attend training sessions and updates laid on for departmental staff.
* Seek advice and guidance from seniors as required.
* Attend all staff meetings.
Planning and organisation
* Carry out the daily tests on the department’s machinery.
* Check and safely use the heat‑sealing machine.
* Participate in decontamination, packing, and sterilisation of contaminated items that arrive in the department.
* Achieve completion of the department’s competencies that have been drawn up.
* Be committed to continuous self‑development.
