University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us. The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) at University Hospital Southampton is looking for an experienced Senior Sister / Charge Nurse to join the team. This is a full‑time, 12‑month fixed‑term maternity cover position.
Main Responsibilities
As a Senior Sister / Charge Nurse you will be expected to promote the delivery of a high standard of patient‑centred care. With the support of the Matron you will analyse, monitor and implement actions that ensure the service delivery is safe and effective in line with the Trust values. You will be responsible for the daily operational management and service delivery process within the department, along with the line management and development of the nursing team. You will ensure the smooth running of the unit, working as a key decision maker alongside the multi‑professional team, leading on aspects of clinical care and focusing on patient safety, experience and quality assurance frameworks.
Essential Criteria
* 1st Level Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC Register
* Recognised mentorship qualification and experience as a Sign Off mentor
* Degree or working towards
* Completion of appropriate specialty Course
* Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice
* Extensive experience in specialty including considerable experience at Band 6 level
* Evidence of clinical leadership ability
* Proven management experience
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Evidence of utilising evidence in practice
* Logical and consistent career pattern
* Expert clinical skills
* Ability to prioritise and deliver agreed objectives
* Ability to work flexible hours and fulfil service requirements
Desirable Criteria
* Management Course (or equivalent)
* Experience as an NMC sign off mentor or clinical practice assessor
* Evidence of staff development and succession planning
* Broad range of post registration experience
* Experience of report writing
