Tourism Sustainability Manager
Marketing Manchester has an exciting new opportunity for a Tourism Sustainability Manager to develop and lead Greater Manchester’s (GM) sustainability agenda for the visitor economy, delivering ambitious environmental and social targets.
Marketing Manchester promotes GM nationally and internationally as a place to visit, invest, meet, and study. Our work is an essential component to successfully raise the profile of the city-region as the gateway to the North and improve global perceptions and city ranking. Marketing Manchester also supports MIDAS, GM's inward investment agency, in the delivery of promotion focusing on priority sectors and campaigns including digital, innovation and green.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide advice and support on the development and implementation of the Destination Management Plan which supports the new GM Strategy for the Visitor Economy, ensuring that sustainability is embedded into the co-creation of goals, actions, indicators, and targets.
2. Work in partnership with the GM local authorities, stakeholders, industry, communities, to develop and implement sustainable practices and projects to support delivery of GM’s Destination Management Plan and Marketing Manchester’s business plan.
3. Position Marketing Manchester as a lead voice for sustainable destination tourism practices.
4. Produce Board reports and other management reports and presentations as required for both internal and external groups and meetings.
5. Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with key public and private sector stakeholders.
About you:
6. A desire to address sustainability issues by developing creative, inclusive, and practical solutions.
7. Excellent presentation and communication skills, both written and oral.
8. Strong interpersonal and networking skills.
9. Excellent planning, organisational, administrative and project management skills.
10. Well-developed IT skills, including CRM, spreadsheets, diary, and email.
11. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
12. A team player, but also a self-starter with the ability to work under own initiative.
13. A sound understanding of the issues and challenges facing the tourism sector nationally and good knowledge of tourism structures, strategies, and policies.
Skills Required:
14. Degree level qualification/demonstrable work experience in Sustainability, CSR, Tourism, Events.
15. Project development, coordination, and management skills.
16. Experience in working with tourism stakeholders and delivering tourism projects.
