The Opportunity
A well-regarded specialist school in Watford is seeking an SEN Teacher to join their team on a full-time basis. This role offers a temp-to-perm opportunity, with the possibility of becoming permanent following a successful initial period. The school provides a supportive, nurturing environment for students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), SEMH, and associated behavioural challenges. The ideal candidate will be an experienced and adaptable teacher who can create a personalised, engaging curriculum to meet the unique needs of each student.
The school is flexible regarding the start date and is open to either a January or Easter 2026 start, depending on the availability of the right candidate.
The Role
As an SEN Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering differentiated lessons that meet the needs of pupils with ASD, SEMH, and behavioural challenges. You will focus on fostering emotional regulation, building independence, and promoting academic progress while creating a safe and engaging environment for learning.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver lessons tailored to the individual needs of pupils with ASD, SEMH, and behavioural needs
Establish structured routines to support pupils' learning and emotional regulation
Use visual supports and other strategies to enhance communication and engagement
Work closely with Teaching Assistants, therapists, and external professionals to provide integrated support for students
Track and report on student progress, focusing on EHCP outcomes and individual targets
Promote self-management, resilience, and independence in students
Participate in CPD opportunities and contribute to the wider school community
The Ideal Candidate
QTS or equivalent teaching qualification (desirable but not essential)
Proven experience in teaching and supporting pupils with ASD, SEMH, or behavioural needs
Flexible and adaptable approach to teaching and behaviour management
Calm, patient, and resilient in working with students with complex needs
Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with colleagues, parents, and external agencies
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
