Job Title: CAM Programmer – Amada Punch & Laser Cutting
Reports to: Production Manager / Engineering Manager
Location: Chadderton
£400 joining bonus paid after completing probation.
Role Overview
The CAM Programmer will be responsible for creating, optimizing, and maintaining CNC programs for Amada punch presses and laser cutting machines. The role ensures efficient material utilization, high-quality output, and on-time delivery of components in line with customer and production requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Generate and optimize CNC programs for Amada punch presses and laser cutting machines using CAM software.
* Prepare and nest sheet layouts to maximize material utilization and minimize cycle times.
* Interpret technical drawings and specifications to ensure accurate part programming.
* Work closely with production and design teams to resolve manufacturing challenges.
* Ensure correct tooling setups and machine parameters are applied for each job.
* Maintain accurate records of programs, revisions, and tooling databases.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives in programming, processes, and production efficiency.
* Provide technical support for machine operators as required.
Skills & Competencies
* Strong knowledge of CNC programming for Amada punch and laser machines.
* Proficient in CAD/CAM software.
* Good understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes and materials.
* Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
* Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.
* Good organizational and time-management skills.
* Team player with strong communication abilities.
Qualifications & Experience
* Proven experience as a CAM Programmer for Amada punch/laser machines.
* Background in sheet metal fabrication or precision engineering.
* Apprenticeship, HNC/HND, or equivalent experience in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering (preferred but not essential).
* Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement (desirable).

* Accuracy of CNC programs.
* Efficiency of material usage and nesting.
* Reduction of setup and cycle times.
* On-time delivery of programmed jobs.
* Support provided to production teams.
