About the Role
Rochdale Additional Needs Service (RANS) is looking to appoint a full-time peripatetic permanent enthusiastic, skilled QTVI/ or teacher willing to train starting on 1st January 2026. This post is based at Number One Riverside, Smith Street. Rochdale. OL16 1XU.
We are interested in a successful, experienced and enthusiastic teacher, to work with children and young people (CYP) with a Vision impairment, their families, schools (mainstream and special and pre-school settings) across Rochdale.
You must be a qualified and experienced teacher with proven classroom experience (minimum 3 years classroom teaching within the last 5 years in mainstream settings). If not already qualified you should be willing and able to train as teacher of the Vision Impaired.
You should also have experience of teaching CYP with SEND in early years and/or primary schools and the ability to plan and develop person centred effective inclusion and independence of CYP with SEND.
About you
The successful applicant will be appointed to the Sensory Team - Children with a Vision Impairment within Rochdale Additional Needs Service. You will join a team that have high expectations, and who are raising standards by providing high quality support to Vision Impaired CYP, their families and settings.
You will need to have a solution focused approach to meeting individual CYP needs and be willing to adopt alternative strategies to ensure positive outcomes for all our CYP. A willingness to learn new skills and a positive 'can do' attitude is vital. As part of the selection process, you will be required to give a 10-minute presentation on ‘What are the barriers to learning for C&YP with a vision impairment and what strategies would you use to remove them?’
If not qualified, the successful candidate will be required to gain a mandatory qualification to work with CYP with a Vision Impairment within three years from starting the course. The training involved is a two-year part time post graduate course at university level.
