They should have well‑developed interpersonal and communication skills, be able to support individuals and the team, and have evidence of continued professional development in the Microbiology field.
On completion of competency, the successful applicant will be required to work a 7‑day shift pattern: 8 am – 8 pm Monday to Friday, and 8 am – 5 pm on weekends.
The Borders General Hospital is situated in a beautiful rural setting with a train link to Edinburgh within walking distance.
In‑person interviews will be held on site on 18 December 2025.

To work in the United Kingdom, you must demonstrate that you have the relevant permission to work in the country. The UK Visa and Immigration Service grants this permission. As part of pre‑employment checks, NHS Scotland will verify your entitlement to work in the UK. You may prove this through various routes, including specific visa types and EU settled or pre‑settled status. For more information, refer to the GOV.UK website and the here link for visa criteria. For specific types of post, if you do not have the necessary eligibility to work in the UK, it might be possible (though not guaranteed) to secure sponsorship via a UK Skilled Worker or Health & Care Worker Visa, provided the employer is a licensed sponsor and the post meets salary thresholds.
It is essential that you have checked that you either already have an appropriate right to work in the UK or that the post would be eligible for sponsorship before submitting your application form.
We cannot accept late applications, so please submit early.
NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among its workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for the workforce to be truly representative, and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
