About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Buyer to join our procurement team within the medical technology sector. This role is critical to ensuring a reliable, compliant, and cost effective supply of materials, components, and services required to support manufacturing, installation, and field service operations. The Senior Buyer will be responsible for managing supplier relationships, overseeing sourcing strategies, and delivering value through quality, cost, and lead time optimisation.
You will play a key role in supporting new product introductions, managing supply risk, and ensuring procurement processes meet regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Strategic Procurement & Sourcing: Develop and implement sourcing strategies for key categories, ensuring alignment with business and regulatory requirements, Working with R&D and Quality support supplier selection, evaluation, and negotiation activities, ensuring optimal cost, quality, delivery, and compliance, Analyse market trends, risks, and opportunities to identify alternative suppliers or cost‑saving initiatives and Implement long‑term supply agreements where beneficial to the organisation.
* Supplier Management: Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with suppliers across the med‑tech supply base, Working with the Quality team conduct supplier performance reviews, audits, and risk assessments, Work closely with suppliers to ensure capability, capacity, and quality consistency and Resolve supply issues, escalations, and non‑conformances in partnership with Quality and Engineering teams.
* Operational Procurement: Oversee end‑to‑end procurement for assigned categories, from requisition to purchase order placement, Maintain accurate cost, lead‑time, and supplier information within ERP systems, Track and manage inventory levels, ensuring supply continuity for production and field service teams and Collaborate with planning teams to mitigate shortages and manage changes in demand.
* Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, Production Engineering, Quality, Production, Field Service, and Finance teams to support new product development and process improvements, Participate in cross‑functional project teams, including cost‑reduction initiatives and supplier transitions and Ensure adherence to med‑tech standards, quality requirements, and regulatory controls (e.g., ISO13485).
* Cost, Quality & Compliance: Identify and deliver cost‑saving opportunities without compromising product quality or safety, Develop quality, regulatory, and sustainability requirements and implement with suppliers, Support audits, documentation requests, and traceability requirements in line with medical device compliance.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Proven experience as a Senior Buyer in manufacturing organisations, ideally within the medical devices or other regulated technical industries.
* Strong knowledge of procurement processes, supplier relationship management, and strategic sourcing.
* Experience working with technical specifications, or complex componentry.
* Excellent negotiation skills with a track record of achieving cost, quality, and delivery improvements.
* Ability to analyse data, identify risks, and make informed procurement decisions.
* Strong working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems.
* High attention to detail with a focus on quality, traceability, and compliance.
* Proven ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, influencing stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
* Highly proactive and organised, with strong capability to manage multiple priorities in parallel.
* Strong analytical thinker with excellent problem‑solving and sound decision‑making skills.
* Effective team collaborator who builds and maintains strong cross‑functional relationships.
* Demonstrated resilience and adaptability, thriving in fast‑paced, high‑growth environments.
Desirable Skills & Experience
* Experience working with engineering drawings.
* Experience working within an ISO13485 environment.
* CIPS qualification or equivalent.
* Experience supporting new product development and supplier onboarding.
* Knowledge of global sourcing or international supplier management.
* Knowledge of Sage 200 or equivalent ERP experience.
* Knowledge of sustainable procurement practices.
