Assistant Engineering Manager – Building Services Burton upon Trent £59K We are recruiting for a large, automated logistics facility on the outskirts of Burton. Looking for an Assistant Engineering Manager to support a small building services team. The role will focus on the planned and reactive maintenance of the factory, ensuring safe operation and high standards across the buildings and surrounding areas. Purpose The Assistant Engineering Manager directly leads the building services and continuous improvement teams whilst playing a critical role in supporting the engineering team by ensuring the successful execution of projects, maintaining high technical standards, and driving continuous improvement. This role bridges the gap between hands‑on engineering work and managerial oversight, fostering a high‑performance team environment while aligning engineering efforts with business objectives. Responsibilities / Accountabilities * Engineering Team Leadership – Support, mentor, and guide engineers. * Project Execution & Delivery – Ensure projects meet deadlines, budgets, and quality standards. * Continuous Improvement – Lead CI agenda using Lean, Six Sigma, etc. * Technical Oversight – Ensure designs and plans meet industry and company standards. * Stakeholder Collaboration – Work with cross‑functional teams. * Risk & Issue Management – Identify and mitigate risks. * Performance Monitoring – Track team performance and provide feedback. * Compliance & Safety – Ensure adherence to H&S and regulatory standards. * Resource Planning & Allocation – Assist workforce planning. * Continuous Learning & Development – Encourage upskilling. * Growth – Provide cover for Engineering & Maintenance Manager roles. Capabilities Required * Engineering Expertise – Ideally in a building services environment (electrical, mechanical, PLC, IT). * Project Management – Deliver projects to deadlines and budgets. * People Management – Supervise and support engineers. * Process Optimisation – Identify and implement workflow improvements. * Risk Management – Anticipate and mitigate issues. * Stakeholder Engagement – Align engineering goals with business objectives. * Performance Monitoring – Track and improve team performance. * Compliance & Safety Awareness – Ensure safe working practices. * Systems – Confident with Excel, Teams, Power BI, SharePoint.
