We are inviting applications from enthusiastic and dedicated Locum Consultants in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to join our team at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust. These are 12-month fixed-term posts, with the potential to become permanent in the future.
This is an outstanding opportunity to become part of a forward-thinking department offering a comprehensive range of obstetric and gynaecological services, including specialist clinics, advanced laparoscopic surgery, ambulatory care, and consultant-led obstetrics, delivered in a supportive environment.
Main duties
These combined posts in Obstetrics and Gynaecology will include:
* Providing inpatient and outpatient care in both obstetrics and gynaecology
* Contributing to acute services, theatre sessions, and 1:8 on-call rota commitments
* Supervising junior medical staff and contributing to education and training
* Participating in clinical governance, audit, and service development
* The job plan will be discussed and may be subject to review by the Clinical Lead
* You will join a team of 12 Consultants and a range of experienced doctors, midwives, and nurses working together to provide high-quality, patient-centred care

Job description – main areas
The Department
The Medical Staffing establishment includes 12 Consultants, 3 Specialty Doctors, 8 Specialty Registrars, 2 ST1/2 trainees and 6 GP Trainees.
The Gynaecological Service
The gynaecological inpatient unit is on Ward B11 (14 beds). Annual procedures include 1900 day cases, 600 elective inpatient procedures, 7500 new outpatients and 11,000 follow-ups. A full range of gynaecology procedures is provided including advanced laparoscopic and urogynaecology surgery, and an active ambulatory care unit. There are specialist clinics including cervical pathology, oncology, fertility, ambulatory care and urogynaecology, along with perineal trauma, vulval, pregnancy advisory and abortion care clinics. A nurse-led team with consultant supervision supports early pregnancy assessment.
The Obstetric Service
The Obstetric unit conducts approximately 2500 deliveries per year. The Maternity Unit has 23 beds and a Level 2 neonatal unit. Consultant presence on the Delivery Suite is 62.5 hours per week with resident evening sessions and non-resident overnight on call.
Antenatal practice includes specialist clinics for preterm, multiple pregnancy, diabetes, mental health, endocrine and haematology. Routine and detailed scans are performed within the department.
The Neonatal Service
The neonatal unit is a Local Neonatal Unit (level 2) with 14 cots, including 3 intensive/high dependency cots, working with the neonatal network to manage complex cases.
Work collaboratively with senior colleagues to provide obstetrics and gynaecology services with leadership in specified MDTs and other sub-specialisms as agreed with the Head of Department.
Qualifications and experience
Essential
* Full GMC registration and licence to practice
* Eligible for Specialist Register – CCT expected within 6 months of interview or evidence of CESR submission and registration
* MBBS or equivalent; MRCOG or equivalent
* Delivery of acute clinical care; leadership; effective communication with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
* Ability to work under pressure, good organisational and management skills; team-focused; caring attitude
Desirable
* Ability to lead and offer obstetric/gynaecology care; surgical experience
* Research and audit experience; publications in peer-reviewed journals
* Experience in guideline development and teaching
