REPORTS TO: Principal
Professional Duties of a Teacher
Regulations

1. Exercise of general professional duties
2. A teacher who is not a principal shall carry out the professional duties as circumstances require, under the reasonable direction of the principal or the employing board if not assigned to a specific school.
3. Exercise of particular duties
4. Teachers shall perform duties reasonably assigned by the principal or the board, including planning, teaching, assessing, reporting, and participating in meetings.
Specific Responsibilities
1. Planning
2. Designing and preparing courses and lessons, teaching pupils, and assessing their development.
3. General
4. Promoting pupils' progress and well-being, providing advice, communicating with parents and external bodies, and participating in relevant meetings.
5. Assessment/Reporting
6. Providing assessments, reports, and references related to pupils' progress.
7. Staff Development
8. Participating in staff development schemes, reviewing teaching methods, and collaborating on curriculum development.
9. Discipline/Health and Safety
10. Maintaining order, safeguarding health and safety, and participating in school meetings related to curriculum and organization.
11. Public Examinations
12. Preparing pupils for examinations, assessing, and supervising during exams.
13. Management Activities/Administration
14. Contributing to staff appointments, managing work of other teachers, and participating in administrative tasks.
15. Work Schedule
16. Availability for 195 days/year, with specified hours and duties, including supervision, attendance, and breaks.
17. Staff Cover
18. Supervising pupils during staff absence, with limitations based on school size and policies.

Essential Criteria
* Qualified to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland, with a degree or equivalent, and registered with GTCNI.
* Experience teaching SEN children with positive outcomes, using varied strategies.
Knowledge and Skills (to be assessed during interview)
* Understanding of safeguarding, SEND policies, assessment methods.
* Effective classroom management, inclusive teaching, collaborative working skills.
Values
Alignment with the school's values and ethos, demonstrated through experience and approach.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience in Learning Support or Social Communication classes.
